James Horner - The Portrait
10,359 plays

Back to Titanic: “The Portrait” piano solo performed by James Horner

James Cameron: “James Horner delivered me something called ‘Sketch,’ so I naturally assumed it went with [the sketching] scene, and it worked beautifully…later, you know, I called him up and said, ‘Hey, for the sketching scene, [the solo piano] cue is great!’ And he said, ‘What? I haven’t done that yet.’ And it turned out that what he had sent me was a piano sketch for a different scene. I said, ‘Well, as far as I’m concerned, it’s done.’ And he said, ‘Well, it can’t be done! That’s me playing the piano!’ And I said, ‘Yeah, I know, it’s great! It’s perfect. It’s just solo piano. It’s so simple. It is to orchestral music what [Jack’s] sketch is to a completed painting.’ And he was just so freaked out by the fact that I wanted to use it. It’s actually him performing on the piano here, not even realizing that it’s going to become the final music [in the movie].”
